The sky was engulfed by the night, the moon burning red, crimson like a wound, like a warning. Below it sat a gloomy manor swallowed by a dark jungle, and the audible sounds of the nocturnal birds and barn owls calling out to nothing in particular.
On the rooftop of the manor, a man sat at the very edge- legs dangling over the side, arms resting beside him, face tilted toward the blood red sky. Still. Composed. Like the height meant nothing to him. Like very little did.
Just then a voice echoed through the silence, " Nirvaan".
He did not turn immediately. When he spoke, his voice carried no surprise – only the particular quietness of someone who had waited a long time for something and refused to show it.
" After three decades I am hearing your voice," A pause. " I thought we would not meet again."
He turned.
His eyes were dark blue, the specific blue of an ocean at night, of a sky tripped of every star and left with nothing but depth. A towering figure, hands now in his pockets, looking steadily at the women before him. She wore a long dark hooded cloak that concealed her features entirely, leaving only her voice as something to hold onto.
"The time has come", she said. “It's better for all six of you to be ready now."
Nirvaan’s eyebrow twitched, the smallest concession to curiosity. “Ready for what?”
“There is energy.” Her voice was careful. Measured. “It has the power to destroy everything, and to create everything. Even we, the Kinesis- are not exempt from what it could do if it came into full use. You must find the body that carries it. And you must protect it.”
“Energy?” Nirvaan straightened slightly. The cold night breeze moved through his dark black hair. “Like us?If the body carrying it is one of us. Right?”
" No.” She cuts him off gently. "That is not what this is. We are energies, Kinesis- we are not human. Entirely human. And for now, we are safe because that person is completely unaware of what lives inside them. "She paused. “But ERGOKINESIS is also present on the earth now. And ergo knows how to hide, how to suppress the sensations of its own energy, it is more powerful than before, it is here for that human.”
The cold settled between them.
"What kind of energy does this human carry? ” Nirvaan asked. “Can I sense it the way I sense others?”
" My child.” Her voice softened, the only warmth in that cold rooftop night. “This time, none of you can do this alone. You must work together, all six. If you don’t_” She stopped. Exhaled. “It will be the end of the kinesis. Of humans. Of perhaps–” another pause, heavier this time– “perhaps even the universe. I do not know the full shape of it. I am only here to deliver what I know.”
She took a breath.
“This may be the last time we meet face to face. But I will reach you by telepathy when I can. Remember– protect your people. Protect that human. And eliminate the Ergo kinesis.”
Nirvaan’s jaw tightened. “Protecting my people is my responsibility until my very last breath. But that human–” something cold moved through his expression, “if they are truly dangerous, eliminating them is the simpler solution. And how did a human come to carry kinesis energy in the first place?Nothing about this time makes sense.”
The woman replied," You will understand the whole thing when the right time comes.”
Nirvaan opened his mouth.
She was gone, dissolved into the night air like smoke, like she had never been there at all, leaving behind nothing but the echo of her words and the red moon watching from the above.
Nirvaan stood at the rooftop edge for a long moment. Then he clenched his jaw, turned, and walked toward the door.
The staircase led him down into the main room of the manor– large, spacious, with antique photographs occupying each wall in heavy frames and two large couches facing each other at the center. The kind of room that looked like history lived in it.
Two of his people were already there.
"No bro believe me she has like this like a muskmelon size boobs, firstly I though they are fake, but when I grab them, they were hell fucking real plumpy and juicy, her nipples were too big and....."
"What are you two talking about?" Nirvaan dropped on the couch with the ease of someone who owned the room, legs spread, arms stretched across the backrest, looking at them both with the flat calm of a man who had just received news that the universe might end and was already managing it.
"WE... pollution.” the other one said quickly. “We were talking about pollution. These humans truly don't deserve this planet. They've ruined everything."
Nirvaan’s gaze slid sideways. “Vedansh.”
Vedansh immediately scrambled over and dropped down beside him. The other shot him a sharp look, silently telling him to keep quiet. Vedansh completely ignored him and turned his face towards Nirvaan, “Nishith was talking about musk melon..., I mean boobs like musk melon, he went to meet a human today."
Just then, Nishith made a black iron rod with his powers and hit the Vedansh on the forearms just lightly enough to make him feel the pain.
Nirvaan stopped him by raising his hands. And then he turned towards Nishith, " Didn't I tell you to stay away from humans? Can't you control your lustful desire?"
Nishith folded his hands, vanishing the rod in his hands and replied, " I know, I am sorry."
Nirvaan turned his hands away in disappointment. " Well, there is something I want to discuss with you guys, call the others."
Vedansh replied," Kaya is not here, she is gone somewhere on her so-called business trips."
Nirvaan nodded, " What about Swapn and Dharitri?"
“On their way,” Nishith said. “I sent a shadow to find them.”
Nirvaan said nothing. He leaned back, eyes forward, waiting the way only someone accustomed to carrying very heavy things had learned to wait.
************************************************************************************************
All of them had settled into the couches by then Vedansh pressed close to Nirvana's side as always, Nishith leaning back with his arms crossed, Swapn quiet at the far end, Dharitri seated with the particular stillness of someone who had learnt patience from the earth itself. Every pair of eyes was fixed on Nirvaan.
He let the silence sit for a moment. “She came today. After a very long time.”
"Who...?" everyone asked in unison.
"Herald.”
"Herald?” Vedansh straightened. “After all these decades? Why now?”
Nirvaan’s fingers tapped once against the armrest.
“Even she doesn't fully understand what's happening this time.” He paused, choosing his words carefully. “ Something doesn't feel right. Not to her, not to me either.” He looked around at all of them. “ She told us we need to find someone. A human. Someone carrying a kinesis energy, one powerful enough to destroy humans, us, and possibly the universe itself. But this person has no idea what they carry. We have to find them first and we have to protect them from Ergo.”
" Ergo?” Swapn’s voice was sharp.” The ergo kinesis is here? Now?” He leaned forward. “And…wait. A human with kinesis energy? That’s not possible. In all my years I have never once heard of a human possessing Kinesis. Never.” He was looking very confused.
Nirvaan gasped, " As I said Herald herself was unaware of the situation this time, all I can say is that from now on, use your powers with caution, we can't make any assumption and plan for now firstly we have to think that how we are going to find that person, and until I give order, no one shall approach a human or venture outside this jungle." Pointing his fingers towards Nishith," especially you."
Nishith breathed, " I will try."
Nirvaan raised his eyebrow.
Nishith hissed " I mean yes, I will not meet any human until you say."
Nirvaan nodded and continued. “We don't know who this person is yet, man, woman, neither, we have no idea. We don't know what specific kinesis they carry. We know almost nothing. Which means we approach this carefully. Stay alert. That's all I am asking for now.”
Nishith timidly raised his hand. "Um...I have a question,".
Nirvaan raised his eyebrow and nodded slowly.
Nishith continued," Why are we protecting this human from Ergo in the first place? If the human is the threat, shouldn't we just get rid of him/her? That would solve everything. And seriously, why do we have to stay under curfew?"
Nirvaan didn't answer him. Not directly. His eyes moved past Nishith to the rest of the group.
“ Herald came after all these years. That alone tells us everything we need to know about how serious this is. The human gets protected at any cost and the ergo gets eliminated. Neither of those things will be easy, A pause. “As for how we found this person and what comes next, I will explain everything tomorrow. Any questions.?”
Nishith’s jaw tightened. He held Nirvaan's gaze with a look that was close to a challenge.
Nirvaan met it calmly, then looked away, which somehow felt worse than any argument.
"What about Kaya?" Swapn said.
" She will come after finishing her work." Dharitri replied.
Nirvaan nodded once. Then he rose from the couch and walked towards the hallway, unhurried, without looking back, leaving the five of them sitting in a silence that felt considerably heavier than the one he’d broken when he first walked in.
